Obituary: Albert Mills UNDERWOOD, only child of John Thomas and Hannah Elizabeth UNDERWOOD, was born December 31, 1885 and died at the home of his mother in Waverly, Illinois, Friday, March 8, 1929, at 4 o’clock a.m., aged 43 years, 2 months and 8 days.
On October 11, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Golden Ethel BROWN. To this union were born three children, Vernon Ray, Margie Roberta and Albert Brownie.
At the age of about 19 he was converted in a revival meeting in Waverly and united with the M. E. Church, South. For several years he taught a class of young men in the Sunday school and was a trustee of the church when called home to meet his Master and Lord.
For fifteen weeks he suffered constantly from that dreadful disease, cancer. He consulted a specialist at various times for a cure, but to no avail. Regardless of his suffering he was very conscious of the presence of Jesus with him and he often spoke to his loved ones and friends insisting upon them to meet him in the Heavenly world.
He leaves a mother, wife, three children and many friends to mourn their loss.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the M. E. Church, South, Rev. W. D. HUMPHREY, presiding elder, in charge assisted by Rev. W. S. WRIGHT and Rev. Amos CRAWFORD.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Minnie TAYLOR, Miss Goldia CLINE, Miss Bessie CLOUD and Mrs. Jennie JOLLY who sang “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “Going Down the Valley”. Miss Catherine SEVIER was accompanist. The flowers were cared for by Wayne POINTS, Wendel ROBINSON, John PIERCY, Sam PIERCY, Archie FLYNN and Albert EDWARDS. The pall bearers were Charles REDFEARN, Henry MINER, Jesse LYONS, Alonzo BACON, Lewis WALKER and Finis SEYMOUR.
Burial was in Waverly Cemetery.
