As far back as the early 1970s unsuccessful attempts were made to locate what has proven to be Bacon Cemetery. Rumors of this cemetery have surfaced from time to time, but not until June Turnbaugh very actively pursued rumors and clues was it possible for her to pinpoint Bacon Cemetery. Mrs. Turnbaugh has extensively researched the area of Bacon Cemetery and its immediate surroundings and the following information is the result of her work. Bacon Cemetery, its tombstones stolen long ago by a neighboring farmer for use as stepping stones around his house, is about 1½ miles east of Illinois Braille and Sight Saving School, and slightly less than ½ mile north of the Old State Road. The cemetery is midway between the Old State Road and the North Fork of Mauvaisterre Creek. Legal description places Bacon Cemetery in the west half of the southwest quarter of Section 14 of Township 15N Range 10W of the Third Principal Meridian. Bacon Cemetery is in a rather inaccessible area on a small glen peninsula emerging out into a tilled field owned by Mrs. Barbara Barkley of San Diego, California. The burial area has nothing to make it recognizable as a cemetery. It is covered with willow and nut trees and long bladed prairie grass in addition to briars, shrubs and brush. The cemetery seems to be set off by a nearby gulley and a fence line composed of underbrush. A former tenant farmer who showed Mrs. Turnbaugh the burial area pointed out a little byway enroute where he said that a Miss Price, niece of a former owner, had walked into and was never seen again.
