Cemetery transcription by members of the Jacksonville
Area
Genealogical and Historical Society
The name "Wood Cemetery" is given arbitrarily as no land
record has been found pertaining to this burial ground, and the Wood
tombstone
appears to mark the earliest burial to be found here. The site is in a
wooded area about 300 yards north of U.S. Route 67 and Illinois Route
104,
on the west side of a country road, and south of Mauvaisterre Creek.
Situated
northwest of Jacksonville, the legal description is in the northeast
quarter
of the southeast quarter of Section 10 Township 15 N Range 11 W. The
tombstone
inscriptions listed here were recorded several years ago by Walter R.
Sanders
of Litchfield and are used here through his courtesy.
