#134 Preemption - WILLIAM PERKINS Ancestor of Dave Perkinsm (contributor) Certificate # 6341 The United States of America To all to whom these present shall come, Greeting: Whereas, WILLIAM PERKINS of Morgan County, Illinois has deposited in the General Land Office of the United States, a certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Springfield whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said WILLIAM PERKINS according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24 of April 1820, entited "An Act making further provisions for the sale of the Public Lands", for the North West quarter of the South West quarter of Section thirty-three in Township 14 North of Range Twelve West of the Third Meridian in the district of lands subject to sale at Springfield, Illinois containing Forty Acres, according to the official plat of the survey of the said Lands, returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract has been purchased by the said WILLIAM PERKINS. NOW KNOW YE, that the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in consideration of the promises, and in conformity with the several acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, have given and granted, and, by these presents, do give and grant, unto the said WILLIAM PERKINS and to his heirs, the said tract above described. To Have and to Hold the same, together with all the rights, privileges, immunities and appurtenances, of whatsoever nature thereunto belonging, unto the said WILLIAM PERKINS and to his heirs and assigns forever. In Testimony Whereof, I, Andrew Jackson President of the United States of America, have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed. This Indenture Witnesseth: That the Grantor Spencer TAYLOR and Elizabeth

TAYLOR his wife of the County of Morgan and State of Illinois, Sarah Ann

EADES (formerly TAYLOR) and Charnock EADES her husband of Cass County in

the State of Illinois, William TAYLOR and Cornelia TAYLOR his wife of

Hickory County in the State of Missouri, Alexander TAYLOR, a Widower of

Sangamon County in the State of Illinois, Thomas TAYLOR and Eliza TAYLOR

his wife of Cass County in the State of Illinois, John TAYLOR and S. A.

TAYLOR of Boise City, Idaho, Andrew TAYLOR and Anna Maria TAYLOR his wife

of Morgan County in the State of Illinois for and in consideration of the

Sum of Five Hundred Dollars in hand paid Convey and Warrant to David

TAYLOR of the County of Morgan in the State of Illinois the following

described Real Estate to wit: Lot Number Nine (9) and forty on (41) feet

off the West side of Lot Number Six (6) in Hocking and Wilson Subdivision

of Lots One (1) and Three (3) and Six hundred and Twenty five (625) feet

off the South end of Lot Two (2) in Block three (3) in Chambers Second

Addition to Jacksonville Situated in the County of Morgan and State of

Illinois hereby releasing and wavering all rights under and by virtue of

the Homestead Exemption Laws of this State. Said parties of the first

and second part being the only heirs of law of Mary Ann RITCHIE late of

Morgan County, Illinois deceased. Dated this Fourth day of May A. D.

This Indenture Made this 25th day of October in the year of our Lord one

thousand eight hundred and sixty sever between Mary Ann RITCHEY (

formerly Mary Ann TAYLOR) of the County of Morgan and State of Illinois

party of the first part and Louis MILLER of the County of Morgan and

State of Illinois party of the second part, Witnesseth; That the said

party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Nine

hundred and fifty Dollars, in hand paid, by the said party of the second

part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have Granted, Bargained

and Sold and by these presents, does Grant, Bargain and Sell, unto the

said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, all of the

following described lot, piece or parcel of land situate in the County of

Morgan and State of Illinois, to-wit:

Part of Lots Forty six & Forty seven (46 & 47) on the original Plat of

the Town (now City) of Jacksonville and bounded as follows to wit:

Beginning at the North west Corner of said Lot, forty six aforesaid

running Thence South Sixty (60) feet, Thence East ninety (90) feet,

Thence North sixty (60) feet, Thence west ninety (90) feet to The place

of beginning.

Together will all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances

thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining, and the reversion and

reversions, remainder and remainders rents, issues and profits thereof;

and all the estate right, title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever,

of the said party of the first part either in law or equity, of, in and

to the above premises, with the hereditaments and appurtenances: To Have

and To Hold the dais premises above bargained and described, with the

appurtenances, unto the said party of the second part his heirs and

assigns Forever. And the said Mary Ann RITCHEY party of the first part

hereby expressly waive, release and relinquish unto the said party of the

second part, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, all right,

title, claim, interest and benefit whatever, in and to the above

described premises, and each and every part thereof, which is given by or

results from all laws of this State pertaining to the exemption of

homesteads.

And the said Mary Ann RITCHEY party of the first part, hereby expressly

waive, release and relinquish unto the said party of the second part, his

heirs, executors, administrators, do covenant, grant, bargain and agree,

to and with the dais party of the second part his heirs and assigns, that

at the time of the ensealing and delivery of these presents, she is well

seized of the premises above conveyed, as of a good, sure, perfect,

absolute and indefeasible estate of inheritance in law, and in fee

simple, and has good right, full power and lawful authority to grant,

bargain, sell and convey the same in manner and form aforesaid, and that

the same are free and clear from all former and other grants, bargains,

sales, liens, taxes, assessments and encumbrances, of what kind or nature

soever, and the above bargained premises, in the quiet and peaceable

possession of the said party the second part his heirs and assigns,

against all and every person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the

whole or any part thereof, the said party of the first part shall and

will Warrant and Forever Defend.

Illinois recorded on the day of the date of these presents in a case in

which the undersigned was Petitioner & William RAGAN was defendant, and

which Decree is referred to as appertaining to these presents, the Said

undersigned bargains, Sells, conveys and confirms to quit- claimed to the

Said William RAGAN to have and to hold to him his heirs and afsigns

forever all the right, title and interest of Spencer RAGAN deceased on

the 18th of July 1850, or at the time of his death, or of his heirs at

law Since in an to the North half of lot No. three (3) in Section Sixteen

(16) in Township fifteen (15) North Range then (10) West in Said County,

containing five (5) acres. - In testimony whereof I hereunto Set my hand

in the County of Morgan and State of Illinois and known and described as

being the west half of the South East quarter of Section Twenty Six (26)

in Township Sixteen (16) North Range ten West; together with all and

singular the hereunto much and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in

any wise affutory; to have and to hold the above described premises unto

the said party of the Second part his heirs and afsigns forever; and the

Said parties of the first part all of their undivided interest in the

aforesaid premises unto the said party of the Second part his heirs and

afsigns against the lawful claim of all persons whatsoever so and will

warrant and forever defend by these presents. -- In testimony whereof

the said parties of the first part has hereunto Set their hands and

I Charles HARDIN clerk of the Circuit Court within and for Said County

do hereby certify that Mary Ann RITCHEY formerly Mary Ann RAGAN, James

HUNTER, William RAGAN and Mary Ann his wife whose Signatures appear to

the foregoing deed and who all personally known to me to be the identical

person whose names are Subscribed to Said deed as having executed the

Same this day appeared before me and acknowledged that they had Signed,

Sealed and delivered the Same as their free act and deed for the uses and

purposes therein exprefsed and Mary Ann RAGAN wife of the Said William

RAGAN having been by me made acquainted with the contents of Said deed

and being by me examined Separate and apart from her said husband

acknowledged that she had executed the Same and relinquished her right of

dower in and to the premises therein conveyed voluntarily freely and

without compulsion of her Said husband. -- In testimony whereof I have
