The narratives provided by Robert Bland.

Anthony James McCarty, was born in Albany, New York 16 June 1863, baptized in Lions Chapel, New York City on 21 February 1864. Died in 1939. He was the son of James Dane McCarty and Elizabeth Ann Palmer. He was the head mechanic (carpenter) for the State Hospital in Jacksonville. It has been said in the family that he was the one that built the bandstand donated to the Smithsonian as in the landmark pictures. Some of the smaller versions are still on the hospital grounds. He married Mary Adelaide Swales 24 March 1887.

In this picture, taken some time after 1894, is Anthony James, wife Mary Adelaide (Swales), daughters Myrtle Ada, Grace Louise, son Clarence Elmer and daughter Mary Adelaide. They went on to have ten children total, Ruth Olivette (my mother), Richard Oliver, Hubert Anthony (died in infancy), William Milton, Albert Anthony and Byron Monroe.

This is their 50th wedding anniversary, celebrated at my parents residence.

Born 13 October 1868 this young lady, Mary Adelaide Swales, was sixteen years old when this picture was taken in 1884. She was the daughter of David Elmer Swales and Mary Jane (Newland) Swales.
