1832 — Laid out by William Woods, John Wyatt and Walter Butler. Named for Franklin county, Kentucky. The founders of the town, and the majority of the early settlers were from Kentucky.
They first named the town Simpson, from Simpson county, Kentucky. April 7, 1832 the name was changed to Franklin. (Carl E. Black research)
